My English Learning Journey

I came to Singapore about five years ago. In my life before that, English was just a subject to me. I learnd it merely because that it was a course which I must study. Thus, I memorised words and grammar , read textbook everyday, which is typical English studying way of Chinese. However, when my life began in Singapore, everything had changed. English to me is not only a language that I need to learn, but also a part of my everyday life.

At first, it was so hard for me to follow every subject  teacher in my secondary 3. The way of teaching English had also changed vigorously compare with the past. It was no longer about words and grammar , besides learning the organisation of the composition, rest of the class was just about news sharing. When doing composition and comprehension, the lack of vocabulary has become the main barrier. Because of that, I could not fully get the idea in the article and sometimes even misunderstood some parts. As for the composition, I didn't have flowers of speech to write an impressive narrative essay, but the argumentative essay was not easy for me as well.

Days were tough for me. However, I did know that I had not put all my heart into learning English and also the difficulty I faced scared me from studying it. Like the words said, "you must reap what you have sown", at times, I tried to improve my English , but the results are not so nice. My passion was faded away, and I would like to put more energy to study other things which can get more obvious return. However, after long journey of learning, I have to admit that it is time to put my heart and do some right things to study English. 301
